Love your location but not your home? A knock-down rebuild (KDR) lets you stay in the area you love — close to schools, friends, and your community — while upgrading to a brand-new, energy-efficient home designed around the way you live today.
We’ve helped countless families transform tired, outdated properties into modern homes that make the most of their block. Here’s how the process works from start to finish.
What Is a Knock-Down Rebuild?
A knock-down rebuild simply means demolishing your existing home and constructing a new one on the same block of land. It’s often more cost-effective than renovating — and gives you a fresh start with modern layouts, higher energy efficiency, and a builder’s warranty for peace of mind.
Step 1: Feasibility and Site Assessment
Every successful rebuild starts with a thorough understanding of your block.
Once you’ve made initial contact with our team, a Crystele Homes representative will visit your site to assess access, slope, boundaries, and service locations. We’ll look at the potential of your land and any constraints, such as easements, trees, or setbacks that could influence design or cost.
Following this, we’ll provide a preliminary site assessment and estimate outlining expected build and site costs — giving you a realistic picture from the start.
Step 2: Selecting Your Home Design
Whether you’re dreaming of a modern double-storey family home or a single-storey design with open living and alfresco space, we offer a wide range of options to suit your land and lifestyle. Our design team can tailor one of our existing floorplans or work with you to create a fully custom design that makes the most of your block, orientation, and local council guidelines.

Step 3: Organising Demolition
While Crystele Homes does not manage the demolition directly, we’ll guide you through what’s required and recommend one of our trusted demolition partners.
You’ll be responsible for engaging and managing the demolition company, who will handle:
· Demolition permits and council approvals.
· Utility disconnections (gas, water, electricity, NBN).
· Safe removal of materials (including asbestos, if present).
· Site clearance and waste removal.
Once demolition is complete, the site will be handed back to Crystele Homes in a clean, build-ready condition for the construction phase to begin.
Step 4: Planning and Approvals
Our team will prepare all required documentation for your new home — including plans, engineering reports, and energy efficiency certifications.
We’ll handle the building approvals through council or a private certifier, ensuring compliance with NSW regulations and estate design guidelines (if applicable). During this stage, you’ll also complete your colour selections at our Selections Studio and finalise your contract.

Step 5: Construction Begins
With approvals in place and your site cleared, your new home build begins.
The construction process follows clear, defined stages:
1. Base Stage – Foundations are poured and site works completed.
2. Frame Stage – Walls and roof trusses go up.
3. Enclosed (Lock-Up) Stage – Windows, doors, and roofing are installed.
4. Fixing Stage – Internal linings, cabinetry, and fittings are completed.
5. Practical Completion – The finishing touches are applied and you inspect your new home with our team before handover.
Throughout your build, you’ll receive regular progress updates and have access to your site supervisor for any questions or walk-throughs.
Step 6: Moving In
Once construction is complete and all quality checks are signed off, you’ll receive your keys and handover pack — complete with warranties, manuals, and maintenance information.
From there, it’s time to move back into your street, your neighbourhood, and your brand-new Crystele Home.
